As we know, stress causes many health problems, but studies show that any condition that’s caused or worsened by stress can be alleviated through the positive effects of meditation.

Most people were not raised to sit and meditate saying: “Om”. But meditation as a practice has gained and is gaining millions of converts by helping them ease anxiety, stress, chronic pain, boost mood and immunity, improve heart health, and even resolve pregnancy-related problems.

Meditation Reduces Stress

The relaxation reaction you get from meditating improves your breathing and your heart rate, lowers your blood pressure, and helps to decrease metabolism. Muscles seep tightness and tension as the body accepts quiet signals to relax.

Scientific evidence has shown and continues to show how meditation works. In one study using brain scans, people who meditate, show a boost in brain activity in the areas controlling the heart rate and metabolism. In other studies on monks, it is revealed that meditation creates lasting changes in the brain’s activity in the areas occupied in memory, attention, perception, and learning.

The calming power of recurrence is the heart of meditation. When you focus on the breathing, ignoring thoughts, and repeat single words or a phrase, this produces the natural reaction of relaxation.

Meditation for Heart Health

Various types of research on meditation and its benefits include studies on heart health stating that the regular practice of meditation significantly helps reduce high blood pressure and lower the heart rate of African American adults and teens.

Meditation for the Immune System

As an immune booster, meditation helps ward off illness and infections. This study showed how a set of patients who meditated had elevated levels of produced antibodies against the flu virus as opposed those who didn’t.

Meditation for Women’s Health

Women’s health issues such as PMS, infertility, and even breastfeeding can be improved when women meditate regularly. PMS symptoms as well as hot flashes subsided when women meditated. And women dealing with infertility had less depression, fatigue, and anxiety following meditation, exercise and diet change. A percentage of those same women was pregnant in six months or less.

Mediation needs practice

Meditation is not difficult to learn and you don’t need to see a therapist numerous times to learn it. But like tennis or any other competitive sport, it’s a skill and you need to practice. In time, just as in sports, people increase the ability to generate such relaxed and meditative states rather quickly. When and if they meditate numerous times throughout the day, the whole day becomes more relaxed.

Meditation is a natural healing process

Though research is endless and the studies done to prove the positive effects of meditation on our bodies, the best thing to do is try it yourself. If something has been proven to reduce stress and many other health problems, it is certainly worth a try. Meditation doesn’t require getting in your car to drive to a doctor, be diagnosed, and receive medication. Meditation is a natural medication. It works. Try it.
